New Year, New You!

January 10, 2023

Is one of your New Years resolutions to get back in shape? Workout more regularly? Finally address those aches and pains that keep nagging you?

Research shows 95% of New Year's resolutions are related to working out. And that 43% of people expect to give up on their New Year's resolutions after a month. Whether you are one to create resolutions, intentions, or goals, now is commonly a time to reflect. You may have a fitness goal to incorporate more physical activity into your schedule and promote weight loss, health goals to increase healthy habit-building such as mindful eating and choosing healthy food options, a goal to stay organized for the sake of your mental well-being, or a goal to improve your skincare routine to supplement your healthy lifestyle. Taking the time to make these goals SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, timely), you can increase your level of success.

Make your goal S.M.A.R.T.

Specific

Make your goals not only identify what item you want to accomplish, but what steps you are going to take to make it happen. Be specific about what you want to accomplish. Think about this as the mission statement for your goal. Remember your who, what, when, where, why, which. Be as specific as possible!

Measurable

What metrics are you going to use to determine if you meet the goal? This makes a goal more tangible because it provides a way to measure progress. If it’s a project that’s going to take a few months to complete, then set some milestones by considering specific tasks to accomplish. Milestones are a series of steps along the way that when added up will result in the completion of your main goal.

Achievable

How are you going to accomplish this goal? Do you have the skills to accomplish it? If not, how are you going to acquire the skills to achieve it? Inspire motivation as you reflect, not discouragement

Realistic

Focus on goals that make sense within the broader goal or dream. Make your goals something that’s in alignment with the overall objective.

Timely

"Goals are dream with a timeline". We can all dream. We can also set the right timeline to make our dreams happen.

Once you go through and write your goals according to each S.M.A.R.T. characteristic, you can then combine and consolidate all the work you’ve done into one S.M.A.R.T. goal.
