By RNakaji, MThompson, LLeonard, LRoberts. Los Gatos Orthopedic Sports Therapy
The purpose of this study is to look for clinical predictors in the use of McConnell patellofemoral taping techniques in patients diagnosed with patellofemoral syndromes at our facility between 2006-2010.
N = 43, 24 males : 19 females
Mean
Standard Deviation
Age 43.9 +/-16
Avg. Number of visits 10
Average number of taping treatments 3.65
Initial Lysholm: 68%
Discharge Lysholm:89%
Initial VAS pain rating: 3/10
Discharge VAS pain rating: 1/10
Duration of treatment time (days): 60
Conclusions
1. Good discharge Lysholm scores and functional outcomes for management of patellofemoral pain using McConnell taping techniques
1. 54% of patients concluded rehab with excellent result (>90%)
2. 30% of patients concluded rehab with good result (84-90%)
3. 16% of patients concluded rehab with fair results (65-83%)
2. Documented change in Lysholm Knee Score of >8.9 points can be attributed to clinical improvement
LGOST patients demonstrated an average of 21 point improvement
3. Can expect patients to attend an average of 10 visits over an average of 60 days, with 4 of those visits including McConnell taping
Study based on chart review of patients treated at LGOST between 2006-2010
